A brief blog post on some interesting projects in the works!
I am putting the finishing touches on some upcoming projects for Firehouse 12 Records - we are very excited to have Mary Halvorson's next album Meltframe coming out Fall 2015. This is a solo record tracked entirely to 2" tape at the main Firehouse 12 room, with no edits. Mary is a powerhouse.
I am also working on the mixes for Anthony Braxton's Echo Echo Mirror House. This project originated as a live performance in the spring of 2011, and I am now mixing it for release in surround sound, as a Blu-Ray Audio disc. We will also be making a stereo version available.
And on the lo-fi end, we have been working to transfer hundreds of analog 1/4" tapes made by the drummer and composer Gerry Hemingway. Gerry made these as essentially field recordings of some of the incredible performances he went to and was part of in the fertile improvisational scene in New Haven in the mid '70s. Some of the players featured are Gerry (of course), Anthony Davis, Wadada Leo Smith, George Lewis, Fred Anderson, Jane Ira Bloom....the list goes on.
Finally, I had the opportunity to mix some astoundingly beautiful songs written and performed by the Swedish singer Maria Winther, with Brandond Ross on guitar and Stomu Takeishi on bass.
